ASTM Testing
Services delivered with metallurgical precision.
CMH Metlabs is an ISO 17025-accredited Canadian materials testing laboratory offering over 100 ASTM testing methods — from coating durability and polymer characterization to adhesive performance and metallurgical failure analysis.
Comprehensive ASTM testing, end to end under one roof.
CMH Metlabs is an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory serving the automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, manufacturing, and energy sectors across Canada. Our ASTM testing services span coating and surface evaluation, polymer and plastic characterization, adhesive and rubber performance, packaging integrity, and metallurgical analysis.
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards form the backbone of modern materials testing — covering thousands of test methods, practices, and material specifications. Many of these are product- or test-specific. We are pleased to offer our customers over 100 different ASTM tests, executed with technical expertise, calibrated instrumentation, and defensible reporting.
What is ASTM Testing?
ASTM testing refers to the procedures and standards developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials to assess the performance and quality of materials and products — plastics, composites, rubbers, metals, coatings, adhesives, and more.
These tests provide crucial benchmarks for safety, reliability, and compliance across industries from automotive and aerospace to electronics, energy, and medical devices.

Navigating ASTM Standards for effective material testing
Some material testing services require broader approaches, frequently incorporating test methods or standards beyond ASTM. Take, for instance, ASTM G155, which outlines practices for accelerated exposure using a Xenon Arc. While it guides on the procedure, it lacks specifics like irradiance levels, test duration, and pass/fail criteria — such as changes in color, gloss, or haze.
You cannot test to ASTM G155 alone unless you can fix all the necessary operational parameters. These are typically found in purchasing or technical specifications, or within other standards that draw upon the practice. If your application does not have such references, our experts are happy to help decide which ones are appropriate for your project.
A proper way to specify your testing might be:
- Test samples per
ASTM G155, Cycle 1 - 2,000 hours exposure duration
- Before and after exposure, evaluate the coating's color and gloss change
- Color difference (ΔE) shall not exceed 3 units; gloss retention ≥ 90%
